Dreams of the Phone Not Working

Dreams Dreaming Dream Analysis Dream

Have you ever had a dream in which you need to make a phone call and you simply cannot? You may be trying to dial 911 to report an emergency but you just keep having problems with the phone. It almost drives you mad as you keep trying to dial and either you dial the wrong number or the buttons just do not seem to work. You may even find yourself dialing the wrong number or having an operator put you on hold. You may wake up feeling both frustrated and anxious.

Many of our dreams involve a phone, whether we cannot dial a number to reach someone or we get through, but we are put on hold. Understanding your phone dreams can help you recognise what is going on in your life and with those around you.

Communication
As might be expected, in our dreams a phone is symbolic of communication. When you dream of using a phone but have trouble, you may be avoiding something or someone in real life. First, you need to determine to whom it is that you need to communicate. In your dream, were you calling a person or a service such as 911? If you were calling a person, think of what communication difficulties you may be having with that person during waking hours. Examine the relationship to see if you are truly being honest with this person about your feelings. Are you thinking of breaking up with your boyfriend or girlfriend, but just do not know how to tell him or her? Do you want to ask your boss for a raise, but just aren’t sure how to go about it? All these situations deal with communication and can cause phone dreams.

This dream can also mean that you feel a certain person in your life is not being responsive to your efforts for communication. Is there someone in your life you have been trying to communicate with that is ignoring you? If so, see if you can figure out if it is just a case of them not being interested in communicating or is it perhaps the way in which you are trying to communicate.

Listen to Your Inner Voice
While phone dreams are about communication, sometimes the communication needed may be with yourself. Try to remember all you can about the dream. Were you calling someone, but were put on hold? If you dream of being on hold, it can be symbolic of you ignoring what your inner voice has been telling you. Maybe you have been working too hard and know you have not been getting enough rest, but you ignore any conscious thoughts of slowing down. If you dream you are put on hold, consider re-evaluating what is important in our life and what you can ease up on a bit.

If you dream you are being ignored by a phone operator, again, it may be that you are ignoring your inner voice. You may have been putting off getting help with something, such as a problem like alcoholism or drug abuse. If you have been feeling a weight on your shoulders due to the lack of confronting this issue, seek out qualified help for your problem. Listen to the part of you that is telling you through these dreams that you need help. Usually, your subconscious knows what is best for you!

Dreams of using the phone and it not working can be exasperating, but remember, there is a meaning behind them. Try to see if you are lacking in communication with someone in your life or if you are not being true to yourself in certain situations.

Giggles - Your Question:
I have a reoccurring dream that I'm driving a car, thing is. I'm not in the car, I'm behind it. It's almost as if I'm driving a remote control car like kids play with, except in my dream it's a real car. It's getting further and further away from me and harder to see what I should do, there is a curve in the road and even though I can't see, I keep driving the car around that curve. Sometimes, I just keep driving it blindly untill I somehow know I've crashed, other times I will stop and hope nothing is going to crash into me. I'm always trying to catch up with it to see what's going on.

Our Response:
It seems as though you are looking at your life objectively. Perhaps you know certain situations are going to present themselves and rather than heed warnings or take advice of others you may keep on going towards that situation regardless. In other words, when you anticipate there is going to be a metaphorical car-crash in your life - you keep moving towards it and can almost see yourself from outside of yourself and seemingly do not have much control over your inner emotions. We often think we have control of our lives, but sometimes we can feel more like pawns or puppets of a bigger more external force that gives us little control over our rational selves.

@puffy cloud - hopefully you will bump into him again. This is how relationships start, you meet someone, there is an instant attraction and then as if by magic they may appear somewhere where you least expect it :) If you are dreaming of him disconnecting though, it means you are not very hopeful of seeing him again.

I developed a crush on someone who's in a relationship, and from body language it seemed as though the couple are not in sink. Later, he came back into my store a couple times, we had nice/short conversation, but haven't seen him since.....maybe he's busy or later felt uncomfortable. I'm not at that store anymore and haven't seen him since. DREAM: I get a phone call from him, he says he found my number. We have a nice conversation, then suddenly the phone disconnects.....like he suddenly hung up on me or got disconnected...then my dream ended.

I had a dream where my mom told me to go bathe her fetus. It was a very small baby, the size of an aborted fetus but alive. I went to go bathe it and it looked dead at first but slowly opened it’s eyes. I then proceeded to call my boyfriend to come pick me up from my family’s house and I couldn’t type his phone number in properly no matter how hard I tried. I then attempted to again and could not find the phone.

Prophetic dreams aren't anything new to me, I've had them on and off since I was a child. From big things, like my cousins getting into a very serious car accident, down to at least seemingly insignificant like dreaming 2 different things that I ran across back to back online last night. I can sleep for 15 minutes and fully dream, or during the night I occasionally have dreams where I move in with random roommates, get a new job, and live day to day life for a month or 2, complete with all the shifts at work and the home time as well. Those are always really crazy because I remember all my new friends names and all sorts of details beyond what most people say they experience in a dream. The absolute craziest was from about March of 2013 until November 8 2016 I had almost the same dream at least 3 times a week. The end of the world would happen, a different way every time, aliens, war, disease, usually something terrifying we are trying to escape when a man, always a different guy, but always the same. He says, "Follow me, I have everything you need, I am a great man that can give you a safe place with food and water, there are other people already there." Once we're there, it's too late, we're prisoners, and we have to plot an overthrow and escape. The very last night I had this dream was the night before our most recent presidential election. I fully believe I dreamt of Trump's coming for over 3 years before it happened. I am just thankful those dreams are done. I really hate apocalyptic dreams. I'd love to do some dream studies!

HoneyTattletail - Your Question:
I notice a strange thing with my dreams that they all have in common. my eyes feel alway shut, but I can see clearly in the darkness. The light are always broken where even if you try to turn them on from the switch, nothing happens. phones start to ring when I get too close to them and if I try to pick it up and use the phone, I get the sound that is earrape level of volume that sounds like the dial-up sound. TVs always show snow on them. my reflection looks more twisted when I look in the mirror. the reflection of me would have the eyes open, but there are no eye, just the sockets with darkness inside them. some black liquid keeps coming out from the eyes. also, if I try to open a door, I end up somewhere that is random, but if I try to get back to where I was from the same door, I can't.

Our Response:
This is indeed a strange dream. The fact you cannot see from your eyes and/or see/hear other things going on properly can mean that there are many obstacles and barriers in your pathway currently. Yet, also seeing yourself in this way may mean your view of yourself is somewhat skewed or has been altered in some way by a possible event. It sounds as though you are lost currently and cannot find a way through a particular situation, or you are trying to find your way through a particularly dark situation or place in your life. The fact the mirror portrays you with the eyes open but in yourself the eyes are black and seeping means that you are hiding something possibly from yourself and others. You don't say how you feel in the dream, as this would help interpretation.

I keep having the same dream over and over about contacting my deceased husband by phone I keep forgetting his phone no and I know it but I suddenly forget it. I can see myself laying closely to him in our bed we both are nude not making love just being close. I also have seen my past friend come in and out of my dream I have vowed to not call him but I feel he is trying to reach me I’m truly confused this dream keeps reoccurring

Our Response:
I am sorry to hear about your husband. This is a dream of contact and you still feeling close to your diseased husband, meaning that you still can't quite come to terms with the reality that he has gone (by the fact you keep trying to contact him). If you look at your dream closely, it is a beautiful dream showing that you could be your true 'naked' self with your husband and that despite him not being around you still feel that level of closeness. With regards to your past friend, it may be that you wish for someone to connect to on a male level now your husband is not around. You would have to look more closely at this and the situation that comes from your relationship with this person as it could be that you see/saw him as being part of your life and cannot quite let him go either. The fact he is trying to reach you may mean that you feel there is unfinished business where this person is concerned.

Shon - Your Question:
I had a dream that I was searching for a flatmate (nonexistent) who went missing, I got caught in a tidal wave that slammed me against a brick wall, I “lost consciousness” and woke up in darkness, found my way back home (to a place that isn’t my real home with random housemates) when I asked how long I had been gone for they said 48 hrs. I tried using their phones to call my mum to tell her I was safe but the phones wouldn’t work and I began to cry hysterically for someone to give me their phone so I could call my mum. Then I woke up to my grocery delivery in real life lol.

Our Response:
It sounds as though you may have had a recent shock/significant event happen and you have as a result been a bit lost or confused about a particular for a period of time. Dreaming of a wave is symbolic of an incoming force or shock coming at you. If a recent shock hasn't happened, your dream may mean you may yet to have one, or are anticipating one perhaps from a build up of emotion that may come pouring out after an event (i.e a fall out in friendships, or a sudden change in your life that you weren't predicting). In such times we need our families as support, hence the fact you were trying to call your mum. It sounds as though if there is any blip, it will be a temporary one given that you quickly found yourself coming out of the darkness.

Teresa - Your Question:
Had a dream that my phone was stolen and dropped by robbers, and I was in a family group trying to call my own number to see if someone had located it. Every phone I used from each family member did not work, the touchpad did not work or the phones were really old???

Our Response:
It sounds as though there is some confusion and you are feeling a sense of frustration somewhere in your life, whether with your family, in work or in personal relationships.

I had a dream where I was in my room, but it wasn't really my room. It's was all dark and stuff, I was texting with my boyfriend and he kept telling me he wanted to tell me something and that he needed to call me. I told him I couldn't answer at the moment and then my phone just disappeared and my Dream shifted into something else.

Our Response:
It may be a dream which means nothing much. Or it may be a dream that represents a mis-communication of sorts and/or that you feel your boyfriend is keeping something from you and not saying.

Jan - Your Question:
I had a dream where I was standing on the side of the road. Suddenly I see this tiny little car come along, it’s so small it could be for a kid but there is a person inside the car. Next thing I know this huge car like a truck comes along and crashes into the tiny car and smashes it flat like a pancake. This car backs up and I’m watching the car become unsmashed again but I know the person inside is seriously hurt, but I don’t want to look. The driver of the other car is yelling at me to take him to the hospital and I’m looking at my phone and panicking about whether I should take him to the hospital or dial 911. I kind of freeze while thinking about it not knowing what to do. I woke up thinking the thing to do was to call 911.

Our Response:
It sounds as though you may be worried about someone else in your life currently who is more vulnerable than other people you may know. It could be a child, or a relative or friend. Or it could be a situation that someone else is going through and the dream about your response when asked for help. Much depends upon how you felt when you are asked to take the person to hospital. This will reflect your deeper thoughts about this person or the situation the dream connects to.

Ginge85 - Your Question:
I dreamt that it was raining heavy outside and my bedroom ceiling was starting to fall in on its self so I was trying to ring the repairs but my phone just wouldn't do what I was trying to make it do, the wrong apps were coming up and it was making me panic and get angry, then it jumped to someone going up ladders to a hole in the roof to fix and then my deceased grandmother appeared and was having a general chat with me as if she were still here until she had to go and it was as if we both knew it was back to the afterlife and we both hugged really hard and started yo cry then I woke up (crying obviously)

Our Response:
Dreams such as this usually signify that something else is going on in your life that you can connect it to, particularly in respect to the rain and your roof falling in. The question is what is going on in your life that you feel is worrying or you are concerned about? It may be a relationship break up, or financial troubles etc. Whatever it is, it is preying on your mind subconsciously or it feels like a portent of uncomfortable things to come. However, the fact someone came to fix the roof and your grandmother came to check on you, means that all in the end will be OK. Visits from deceased relatives is always a lovely sign. Whether you believe in the afterlife or not, it is a great comfort. In dreams such as this we never can help but feel our loved ones are still around looking out for us in some way.

Mazzah - Your Question:
I keep dreaming different settings But they all sum up to me being at a party or me being somewhere with other people, desperate to text/call my boyfriend to tell him Im okay and will be Home soon - and that I haven’t Done Anything He wouldnt approve of ( I often Suddenly realize that it’s the morning after, but always with friends that we trust, and always a random coincidental reason as to why it got so late). Every time my iPhone bugs up - either I can’t find his number on my phone, or there is a virus on my phone, or I can’t seem to find his name on Facebook to send him an IM, or read what worries he might have sent me - no matter what I do. And it turns into a nightmarish feeling because I am always very intent on showing him the love he deserves IRL , and I have eyes for no one else, truly. So I’m there in this frustrating dream knowing that I haven’t come home the last night, but done nothing wrong besides from that, but knowing that it’s not okay to stay out and don’t leave a message- and he must be super worried and have all these terrible ideas of what I must have been up to. And I sort of fight my way home but there’s ton of random stuff happening to prevent me to keep focus. We have a great relationship and besides from “normal” stuff, I don’t worry particularly much about deeper things with us, and we are both certain of each other and all is good. But these dreams have been following me now for the last year of our now 2 year relationship and I can’t understand it.

Our Response:
Your dream is merely one of a basic insecurity that you feel you need to have to justify your actions and reassure your boyfriend. There is nothing to worry about here - it's just your sense of responsibility to another person kicking in. It demonstrates that your love for him is strong and that you do not wish to do anything that may jeopardise your relationship in any way. The key here is what you perceive your boyfriend's reaction to be if he doesn't hear from you. If you think he will be worried, then you feel your love is strong. If you think he is not bothered and will go and do his own thing if he doesn't hear from you, then it may be that you feel deep down that your personal obligations to him are stronger than his personal obligations to you.

I have this reoccuring dream where I'm sleep, someone breaks into my house, walks around the house without taking any thing. I pick up the phone and try to call my friend for help; but, either my phone won't work, or I mis-dial his phone number. The dream has been reoccuring for a month straight and I can't make sense of it. I do know that the dream has seemed to distant me from my friend; I can feel the division happening even when we are together "laughing" and "carrying on".

I had a dream I was out with my friends in a restaurant an I lost my phone an I was saying I won't be able to keep in touch with a certain person. I went looking for it an found that person and told them I lost it.What does this mean?

Our Response:
It may mean quite obviously that you subconsciously wish to keep in touch with this person. On the other hand, it may not mean that at all. Much depends upon whether you feel that person resonates in your life and whether you wish to keep in contact with them. Unless the feeling stays with you and you feel that it may means something deeper, then it may just be a dream of mere coincidence this person came up in conversation in your dream.

Polly - Your Question:
I have this dream where my mom (who is deceased) is out of town and she told me to go over and check her mail and nobody is supposed to be in her house. I go over and find my nephew, his girlfriend and kids with other people in her house. I tell them to leave and they do. I leave and come back and they are there again. I tell them to leave and this time they refuse to leave. I try to call my mom but I can't dail the number. I try several times with no results. I finally wake up.

Our Response:
Much depends how you feel in the dream and why you think the family may be in the house. If your mother's house was previously a family house, then you may be harking back to former times. However, the puzzling aspect of your dream is the fact you are telling your family to leave; do you psychologically wish to be separated from them now your mother has died? Do you feel they have intruded too much on the memories of your mum or are intruding too much in a particular way? The answer will come to you if you question the reasons why it bothers you so much that your family refuse to leave.

I have a similar recurring dream, usually happening when I’m stressed. But in the dream something happens where I have to call emergency services but I don’t remember the number or the number rings out. The most recent one was that my dad had called to say he was going to commit suicide but I just couldn’t work out how to call emergency services (which is incredibly strange thing for me considering I’m a firefighter and see the number multiple times a day)

Our Response:
The dream is likely to have something to do with your work environment, particularly if your stress levels are a result of work. It may be a simple feeling that you are unable to get your job done to the best of your abilities, that you are underperforming in some way, and/or you are feeling frustrated as you are not able to achieve a particular objective. Ask yourself what you think the explanation may be in connection to your dream, your subconscious is very good at making the connection and answering questions for you.
