Dreams Involving Sexual Themes

Most people at some point, have at least one sexual dream. It may involve their spouse, a friend, a stranger, or even someone in their family. The realm of feelings you experience from a sexual dream can be anything from extreme ecstasy (in the case of a dream lover) to extreme disgust (in the case of a family member). If you have a dream that involves someone you are not attracted to during waking hours, remember that having dream involving a sexual theme does not always mean you want to have sex with that person. As crazy as that sounds, it is true. For example, you may dream of having sex with a friend to which you have no attraction. But, this friend probably has some traits you would admire in a lover, so your mind is merely trying out these qualities in a sexual scenario.

Nowhere to Make Love

In this dream, you and your lover are feeling amorous, but cannot find a secluded enough place to make love. Try as you might, no matter where you go, there is always a crowd. While this seems like a dream about sex, it is more about intimacy. Look at your current relationship to see if there are some factors preventing you and your lover from being intimate with each other.

Interruption

In this dream, you and your lover are interrupted during the act of making love by someone you know (a friend, family member, your boss) or a complete stranger. You feel embarrassed, but may still find yourself talking to the person who interrupted you. This intruder is actually symbolic of some outside force that is intruding on your relationship. If your parents interrupt, do they voice their displeasure with your current beau in real life? If your boss is the interrupter, is your career pulling you away from being able to spend time on your relationship?

A Vanishing Partner

As you are in the arms of your lover and being carried away by passion, your lover disappears. He or she just literally vaporises before your eyes. This dream can mean you feel frustrated with your current relationship. There is something missing in the relationship, whether it is respect, desirability, spontaneity, or something else. Whatever is missing is making you feel disconnected from your current lover.

Faceless Stranger

Your lover in this dream is very skilled at pleasing you, but remains faceless. While this may be a bit upsetting, this is actually a great dream to experience. Having this dream allows you to openly experiment and freely explore exactly what pleases you, not only physically, but emotionally as well. This dream gives you knowledge of your sexual self to carry into future relationships.

Some things to remember when trying to understand a sexual dream are:

• Avoid judgment. Just because something in your dream causes fear during waking hours does not mean that it cannot be helpful to you.
• Try to learn from whatever the dream is trying to teach you.
• Avoid guilt. No matter what your sexual dreams are about, do not feel guilty about them. Remember that few are to be taken at face value.
• It is okay to keep your sexual dreams to yourself. Do not hurt your partner by sharing too much about your dreams. It may make him or her feel inadequate.
• Stay open-minded and positive. These dreams appear to try to help you, so stay open and upbeat about any dreams you have.
