Dreams of Losing or Finding Something

Dreams Dream Analysis Dream

Dreams of losing something or someone can be very frustrating. You may awake feeling exhausted and aggravated after having spent what felt like the entire night looking for whatever you lost. In contrast you may awake from a dream in which you found something or someone feeling refreshed and peaceful. Both of these dreams are very common, but you need to examine them closer to truly understand their meanings.

Losing Something
Many people dream of losing every day items that are important to them – a vehicle, purse, or wallet. Without these items, they may feel lost. Not being able to find them is very exasperating.

A dream of losing something can have several meanings. One is that you feel overwhelmed and distracted with day-to-day life. This dream may be telling you that it is time to clean up and reorganise your life, not just of material things, but also of things that keep you on the run all day. Another meaning is that the lost item in your dream is actually symbolic of a lost opportunity, relationship, or part of yourself. This dream can occur when going through a big change, such as losing your job or the end of a relationship. Yet another, more common meaning of a dream of losing something is that you fear losing something in life that is important to you. This can include personal property such as your home, expensive jewellery, or family heirlooms.

The important thing to think about is what did you lose in your dream and what significance does it hold to you? Is this item really important or is it just a perceived importance? Is there anything you can do to assure that this thing is not lost? If you dream of losing personal property such as your home, it may make you feel at ease to know the property is insured, just in case of loss.

You may also dream of losing a person. If it is someone you know, how is this person important to you? You may be sensing during waking hours that they are emotionally pulling away from you, but you do not want to allow yourself to think about it. If this is a spouse or partner, they may be exhibiting subtle hints that they are not as committed to you as you would like them to be. If it is a parent, you may be worried about their health. If your mother or father has had health issues lately, even if it is nothing serious, you may dream you have lost them in the house or a public place. This is symbolic of your fear of losing them to death.

If the person lost in your dream is your spouse or partner, you might want to analyse your relationship to see where it is really going. It may help to talk to them to see if you can find out how they are feeling.

Finding Something
When you dream of finding something, you may actually be coming into contact with some aspect of yourself. You may have repressed this part of your psyche, but may find it in a dream. This can actually be a freeing experience if you finally realise that the part of you that you have found can now be presented during waking hours.

Some people believe that dreaming of finding gold is a good omen. It may be symbolic of actually finding hidden treasure within you as gold is symbolic of life, warmth, and well-being.

If you dream that you find your spouse or partner, it may be identifying new areas of your relationship. Has your relationship with this person grown or intensified lately? If so, your dream may be telling you that your relationship has gone to a new level.

Dreaming of finding something is rarely annoying, but dreaming of losing something or someone can be infuriating. Take inventory of your relationship with this person to see how the relationship has changed lately and what can be done to help ease your mind of actually losing this person in waking hours.

J - Your Question:
Okay so I just had a dream that I was in belguim, I was staying in an house wich was on a estate, I have never been to belguim. I found a very old paper kite and at the time I didnt think much of it so when a kid on the block asked to have it I then gave it to him, I then found out the kite was worth more then £100k. So I then went searching for the boy, it took a while but I found him but he wouldnt show the kite till I said its worth 100k. He gave me the kite and now remember be chased by a mob of people trying to get the kite from me, after a very long chase I got away and then ended up at the airport waiting for a plane home. I dont dream much but this felt like it ment somthing I cant get my head around what it is. ??

Our Response:
To dream of a kite means it is usually connected to wealth. If the kite was flying freely and you are in control of the kite, then you are in control of the area of your life the kite represents, and you can reach good heights in your current endeavours. If it comes crashing down, then this is hopes turning to possible disappointment. However, in your case the kite is a) old b) has never got off the ground c) has been taken from you and d) when it is you find it is worth money. So, it seems you are experiencing some frustrations in one area of your life which could amount to something but there are constant obstacles, as well as gains and losses. It could be to do with money and wealth, but it could also be to do with business matters and/or belongings. Only you can decifer this and connect it to your current life. Much would also depend upon whether you had the kite with you at the end and how you felt. More food for thought in this case. Have a think and try to fathom what it means, sometimes after a few days the meaning will click naturally into place.

@ishan - that's quite a nice dream. There is accessible money or opportunity for you there if you want it - just be careful it doesn't get washed away.

Kathy Sue - Your Question:
Sometimes the items seem really important. Other times, they are no more important than a tube of lip salve. Sometimes they are items that are really around somewhere (but not on the bed or the floor.) Sometimes they are things I lost long ago. What does this mean? Obviously, there's some important message here because it keeps happening. Thanks.

Our Response:
This may just be your subconscious reminding you there are physical things on your bed which you are aware may fall off if you move and this is the thought process between lucidity and your dream world taking shape. You might wish to move the items off your bed permanently and perhaps the dream won't re-occur.

I've had a dream that has recurred countless times over the years, though it's slightly different each time. Strangely, it always feels like I'm awake when it happens and there is no feeling of needing to wake up when I get up to check. My bed is quite wide, so I often have various items lying on the other side of the mattress. The dream is that one or more of the items falls off the bed, or I knock them off, and they disappear instead of falling to the floor. I always get up to check and they are never there. Sometimes the items are important and other times not. I always feel confused afterwards, and often can't quite remember what it was I 'lost'.

Jahnia - Your Question:
I had a dream that my youngest brother and I were looking for the house keys and they appeared in a shoe. What could this signify ?? Thanks for your response in advance.

Our Response:
If a dream leaves a deep residual feeling or emotion, then it is important in some way. If you don't say how you felt emotionally in the dream, it is difficult to analyse. Some dreams may pop up with a symbolic image such as yours which you may feel is important in some way, or is trying to tell you something. As specified in the article, the thing to think about is what did you lose in your dream and what significance does it hold to you? Is this item really important or is it just a perceived importance? You would have to supply more background information about your emotions surrounding the dream, or current circumstances your dream may connect to in order for me to be able to answer this question.

Jazzy - Your Question:
I had a dream that my ex's son was crying under the bed. So I picked him up and as I tried to pull him in closer he pushed me back and started talking baby talk. I couldn't understand him so I said, "What?" Then the next couple times he repeated it the thought popped in my head. "Oh you want to talk to your dad on the phone.", I blurted. He shook his head yes in excitement. For the life of me I could not remember the last 4 digits of his phone number. I looked through my call log it was not there. I looked through my contacts and found it but oddly the number was hard to see. So I took out my address book and still couldn't find it. I felt like a disappointment. What does this dream symbolize?

Our Response:
It sounds as though you still have an emotional connection to your ex, or may subconsciously be looking for a way to find one. Perhaps, the fact your ex's son was in your company points to an inner desire to gain contact in some way with the son acting as a psychological bridge/way through. The fact you are finding it difficult to find or see the number means there is no or little contact currently. Your feeling of disappointment is just that. You are disappointed (in some way) the connection between you and your ex has been lost or severed. However, please always remember dreams can be passing or fleeting emotions. Much would depend upon your deeper residual feelings that are left after your dream regarding your ex (i.e whether there is a longing to see him or not).Sometimes, the answer can be straightforward such as you miss your ex. Or it can be the opposite such as; thankfully, I couldn't get in touch and the dream has shown me that it's time to put something behind me and move on. From here on in, only you can answer this question.

D - Your Question:
My dream is me finding children’s books in water. That are placed there by my son. The water is calm and clear in a sink or a tote around my home. The last dream was a bit different we were at a unknownhouse and I found a book in the restroom sink and I asked my son why he did it now the book is wet. He replied it’s not dry now. The man of this house wa not happy and threw my son out the door and I was trying to get to him. And that is when I woke up. Back story is my son is 5 an for him to say a sentence like it’s not dry in reply to what I said is huge. He is currently being tested for behavioral problems and doesn’t really speak in full sentences.

Our Response:
The book is symbolic of education and knowledge. But, how did the water make you feel in your dream? Still water has a calming effect which may be at odds if you are concerned about your son's development. It's almost as through the book is there for the taking but there is a difficultly to get to it (i.e to learn). If the water was dirty or stagnant, then this would mean that things are muddied, confused and not clear, but your pools are clear which is a good omen. It might be that this pool is a temporary hinderance or obstacle to your son's educational ability. For instance, due to the clarity of the water, the answer is there - but it's not yet attainable. Perhaps, there is a clear way forward or answer that the doctors or assessors are not seeing. You are obviously protective over him re; the man of the house throwing him out, which is understandable and you feel frustrated being unable to reach your son through communication. The fact your son spoke in the dream, means there is much hope, faith and resolve to attempt to get this issue sorted. For instance, 'selective mutism', is a severe anxiety disorder that prevents a person from speaking to certain people or in certain social situations. The ability for your son to speak may be there, but it might be that your son's will is currently not. If you think through this dream yourself - you may just come up with an answer to help your son through this tricky time.

Ericus - Your Question:
A had a dream about my pair of sandals missing, but my ex girlfriend helped me in search of it, I finally found the first one and she found the second one all at the same place in a forest near a refuge dump. Please help me with the meaning of this dream. Meanwhile stopped my job, went to school and completed. I want to go back to the same job cause I like the job. Please help me understand this dream.

Our Response:
It seems you have been thinking about the difference between two options in your life, which one you head towards and the direction you take is up to you; the symbolic life of the lush green forest or a life that you want to try to avoid i.e the rubbish dump. The fact your ex-girlfriend helped you find your shoe means that at some point she was very supportive of you.

@UnknownPlaya - it means you are hankering after girls from your past which keep invading your subconscious! If the bear and not your ex keeps appearing and not your ex, it might mean you still have feelings for her but you don't want to face up to them or admit to them. Mel.

@Burbur - it might not mean anything or just that you feel you are concerned or worried for your brother in some way, or you are just afraid of losing him.

@Kyoma -You don't say whether you felt happy or sad, or a feeling of longing on discovering all the things you have lost. Perhaps you need to move on from something and your back pack is quite symbolic of that?
AngieG - 23-Oct-17 @ 2:20 PM
I dreamt that I was in a country scene staying at someone's house. I don't know her. My dad came to pick me up and we had our current 4 dogs with us and 3 of my 4 siblings. On our way home, in the middle of the road, was everything I had ever lost. This included the stuff that was stolen from me earlier this year and my cat which has been lost since last month. All were intact and the inly thing I couldn't find was my backpack.

Lola - Your Question:
I dreamt my boyfriend came home to our apartment with a group of friends I didnt know there was a girl among them I didnt see her face very well and I remember him and the group leaving and locking the gate keeping me stuck with out a way out. I somehow found a way out and went looking for him I was very hurt angry and upset I remember while looking for him I was going through some messages of him talking to two other girls and it angered me more I kept looking for him after a long adventure of crazy events that I don't fully remember. I found him at the end of my dream he was really drunk hanging out with a different girl who I dont know either.

Our Response:
It sounds as though you have some issues of jealousy and distrust with regards to your boyfriend that are coming to the fore here. You don't say whether you distrust your boyfriend in any way, but it seems from your dream that you might and because of this you are feeling a little insecure. Hopefully, this is just a passing feeling that will resolve itself quickly.

Chrissarah - Your Question:
My recurring dream is that I am out, with my daughter in the last dream, we are at a localish place. We do not have a car and make great effort to get home or elsewhere, probably several miles on foot uphill and down roads. When we are there I remember we had a car and it is parked near where we were in the first place. We have then to do the journey back to pick up our car. The dream ends before we get back to the car.

Our Response:
It's difficult to analyse without knowing how you felt in the dream or your back story and/or the relationship with your daughter (which your dream very much features around). But it seems that you and your daughter may have a very close relationship and quite simply have traversed the ups and downs of life together. I don't know whether you have had struggles or are having ups and downs currently and quite simply can't quite get to where you both need to be. However, it's a nice dream to know that your daughter is always by your side and you by hers, whatever you may either or both may be going through. Much about dream analysis can be figured out by the dreamer - it's almost like putting the pieces of a jigsaw together by trying to match up what is happening in your life against the feelings and elements of your dream.

@Seagull - it sounds like you are doing some serious soul-searching in your private, as well as your subconcious life. But, it does mean you are also exploring different, new and exciting things. It also sounds as though you are moving away from a period of your old life and into a new phase or chapter and leaving behind what has been familiar. There is always an aspect of sadness when we move away from a part of our life. A lot will depend on your current situation and connecting it in somehow. It is always difficult to predict what a dream means without knowing the back story - only you can connect your exterior life to your subconscious. It sounds like a nice dream though - with good prospects and you will be expanding your mind and intelligence more. Perhaps you are shedding a skin and moving on into a magical new period.

I had a dream where i had to collect all sorts of things , crocodiles, flowers , manny different things. Than i saw this things inside a lage seethrough pot or something more flat than that. They were all inside whater. And I was doing this to open a portal or some kind of third eye. Also not very clear but when i entered a dimension of search full of rooms I sometimes thought i wad naked. Anyhow there was the order of mayas and that would halp in finding the truth about something important amd I could find the order in this demention. There was a crpun like a hat of thouse figures in egypt that were tall and straight and a white dress. But it wasnt me who wore them but a different unknown female . While me, i was asled if I wanted to start life all over , forget about my life now and live happily starting as a baby again Aparwntly the reason why i was making the pot. But at the moment of the question I felt sad. I thought about mom dad, brother, a fous person whome I like and I thought to myself I didnt want to forget this people amd desapear from their lifes and not know what happened to them. So I said no

@LilyEmma - If it was a satisfying dream, then this in itself is something to feel good about and is a nice omen in itself. You might find that you start experiencing little rewards or feel good about life in general or feel good about helping those close to you.
AngieG - 3-Oct-17 @ 3:31 PM
@Dullone - do you feel insecure in anyway? Or feel that you need to protect something or someone who is vulnerable in your life? You might feel threatened in some way and are trying to protect something or someone you feel you might lose.

I dreamt that I was shopping with my mum and as we were leaving through a lift a bottle of conditioning shampoo fell out of my bag and through the elevators gap in the floor. I realised that I could get this back by taking a flight of stairs and got to the bottom where I found the bottle. I then started to uncover other lost items people had left like phones, new make-up, car keys, etc. A rather odd yet satisfying dream but I wonder if it could have some significance? Thank you :)
