Dreams of the Phone Not Working

What Dreams About Phones Not Working Mean

Few dream experiences are quite as maddening as trying to use a phone that simply will not cooperate. You might be frantically attempting to dial 999, but the buttons refuse to respond. Perhaps you keep entering the wrong digits no matter how carefully you try. Or you finally get through, only to be placed on hold indefinitely while something urgent unfolds around you.

These dreams often leave people waking up with a racing heart, feeling genuinely frustrated even though nothing actually happened. If you have had this type of dream, you are far from alone. Phone malfunction dreams are remarkably common and tend to follow similar patterns.

Phones as Symbols of Communication

In dreams, phones often represent our ability to connect with others, though interpretations vary from person to person. This association makes sense when you consider how central they are to daily life. We use them to reach loved ones, contact services, and stay connected to the wider world.

When a phone fails in a dream, it may reflect feelings about communication difficulties in waking life. Perhaps there is something you need to say but cannot find the words for. Or there may be someone you have been meaning to contact but keep putting off.

The specific nature of the problem can offer clues. Dialling the wrong number repeatedly might suggest confusion about who you actually need to reach or what you want to say. Buttons that do not work could point to feelings of powerlessness. Being placed on hold might indicate that you feel ignored or that your concerns are not being taken seriously.

Your situation may be slightly different. ask a question below ↓ and our editorial team will reply with our advice.

Who Were You Trying to Reach?

Think about who you were attempting to call in your dream. This detail can help you understand what the dream might relate to.

If you were trying to ring a specific person, consider your current relationship with them. There may be unresolved tension, something left unsaid, or a conversation you have been avoiding. The dream could be drawing your attention to this connection because it holds some emotional weight for you at the moment.

Dreams involving failed emergency calls are often described by those experiencing stress or feeling unable to ask for help in some area of life. They may reflect a sense that support is not available when you need it most, or that your attempts to get assistance keep falling flat.

Calls to organisations, businesses or unknown numbers can suggest broader anxieties about dealing with systems or bureaucracy, or uncertainty about how to handle a particular situation.

What to Take from These Dreams

While dreams about malfunctioning phones are unlikely to be predictions or warnings, they might instead reflect your current concerns or emotions, particularly around themes of connection and communication.

If this type of dream keeps recurring, it may be worth asking yourself a few questions:

  • Is there someone you have been meaning to speak with?
  • Are you struggling to express something that feels difficult?
  • Do you feel unheard or overlooked in some part of your life?
  • Is there a situation where you feel unable to get help or support?

You do not need to find a definitive answer. Simply noticing patterns in your dreams can sometimes bring useful things to the surface.

These dreams tend to be more common during periods of heightened stress or when facing challenging circumstances. If you are experiencing persistent anxiety or sleep disturbance, speaking with your GP may be helpful, and they can refer you to a mental health specialist if needed. The NHS website provides information on managing anxiety and sleep problems.

For most people, occasional frustrating phone dreams are simply part of normal dreaming. They pass, and rarely indicate anything serious. But paying attention to them may offer insight into what is occupying your mind, even if that insight is modest or incomplete.

@Bolly That sounds like a really unsettling dream, and the phone being snatched after you tried to help suggests you might be feeling taken advantage of by people you've extended kindness to. In dream symbolism, losing your phone often points to a loss of connection or control, especially where trust has been broken. Might be worth thinking about who in your waking life fits that pattern. Sometimes these dreams are a nudge to be more careful about who you go out of your way for.
Bolly 29/07/2026 at 10:45 am
After trying to assist someone, I drove forward, though I saw those people afar off looking at me, but when I drove to their area, one of just just snatched my phone and refused to give me
AnalyseDreams Editor 24/05/2026 at 9:17 am
@sgs2006 Recurring dreams like this usually point to a waking situation where you feel unheard or powerless, your mind keeps replaying the "can't call for help" loop because something in real life feels unsafe or out of your control. Have a think about where that might apply, work, a relationship, finances, and try to name it on paper. If the nightmares are wrecking your days, please see your GP, they can refer you for CBT which works really well for repetitive nightmares. You're not stuck with this.
sgs2006 25/09/2023 at 8:34 pm
I keep having the same nightmare, repetitively, I am either being kidnapped or about to be kidnapped or I am, or I see killers around me and I try to call 999 but I never have signal or my buttons aren’t working or they answer and I can’t hear them, so I try to text 999 but the texts aren’t delivering.
Someone able to help me stop them? I am ruined everyday with a feeling of unease.

I have had this dream multiple times and don't know what it means. In my dream I'm trying to call my mom. I try so hard to dial the numbers but no matter how hard I try I can't. The numbers get jumbled up or the phone isn't working. It's like I'm desperately calling her over and over and I just can't. My mom passed 14 years ago and I don't understand my dream. It's like I'm needing her for something but can't reach her.

In my dream I am trying desperately to call my boyfriend of 16 years. I know the number but I can't dial the phone correctly. I end up trying to use other people's phones or giving them the number to call for me. I never get the call to go through.

My nightmares of not being able to use the phone to call for help started when they switched from rotary to push button.

I have vivid nightmares almost every night. Last night I dreamt I was with my niece and parked my car in a stranger’s yard. I got this sled out, attached it my car and put my niece in it even though it is summer. I give her a ride and find a side road and put her back in the car. The road is white but it is not snow. I see a gorgeous beach on the left. Aqua water and white sand I’ve never seen. My ex shows up and then I turn away and my ex, niece, nephew and dog are gone. The area is a prehistoric study site. Throughout the NM I can’t phone out. I keep screwing up the digits. One be one they are. First the ex, no legs, next my nephew, ok but I’m still going crazy because my 9 year old niece is out there and I still either can’t find a working phone in the facility or I can’t seem to dial the right number or my fingers don’t work properly! My niece is found and my dog is on the beach and there is danger buys he won’t come. I go to the beach where there are creatures to get my dog...and the nightmare ends!

I’ve just awoke from a 999 call dream. The house was on fire. Started from the roof. Everybody evacuated from the house even a man I don’t recognise? But he went back in and fetched my belongings. Whilst everybody else evacuated only with guitars. I tried dialling 999 Multiple time’s but was faced with various advert To skip before proceeding with the call. Once I had connected to someone it was a woman with broken English and then a man which kept going around in circles. I decided to hang up and the fire went out.
I then woke up. Any idea anyone?

I have been catching myself more recently, dialing my own phone number and doing it without thought. I will dial the number 2xs before getting the correct number dialed on the 3rd try.

I thought it was just an accident but now, I am not sure anymore and life is bad, though not as it could be.
What does it mean to be woke and calling/dialing my number subconsciously, while woke?
ken 10/06/2020 at 9:49 pm
my dreams are usually very scattered and depict things that could happen/have happened in my daily life. part of my dream last night involved me thinking that i was still with my ex boyfriend, but i felt like i hadn’t heard from him in a month, so i tried calling him to see if he was okay. the numbers on my phone started looking distorted, my head was pounding and i was stumbling, my phone physically wouldn’t let me call him. in reality, i haven’t spoken to my ex in months. it was a horrible relationship with no trust or respect, and i’m glad i’m not with him, but i’m still hurt and healing from it. last week he texted me out of the blue to ask if he left a bag at my house. he’s moving in with the girl he cheated on me with and couldn’t find the bag when he was packing. i don’t have the bag, so i didn’t reply, but i wanted to.

I mostly dream about not being able to call 911 most of it has to do with being in danger or afraid and
everytime i try to dial 911 i cant get my phone to work and i get afraid and upset..i cant really think of the
details but I do remember every one of them trying to dial my mom or 911 and i cant
CousinVinny 26/03/2020 at 8:37 am
The night went on, and continued getting ready for a concert, I tried calling my ex, because she was the person I was meeting up with, the phone was ringing. A woman’s voice answered and she told me, “you can’t make a call at this time and won’t be able to because you are dreaming”. Soon as I heard those words, I opened my eyes, I noticed the street lights coming through my blinds. I asked myself am I still dreaming? Is this even real, i got up, started walking around, as soon as I looked where I was laying, i woke up for the 2nd time, only to wonder, is this in fact reality. I texted my ex, to ask her the question that lingers on my mental. “Is this real life?”, she responded, “yes, yes it is, you have another bad dream”. I think last night was the first night I ever experienced a false awaking, or was it me actually realizing the fact I’ve had them before. I have many questions, because lately I’ve been lucid dreaming more than I’ve ever had in my entire life. I just want to know why.
Dreamgirl1223 24/12/2019 at 2:21 pm
In dream I was going to give my phone number to a girl. But the phone looks thin and new and fancy. It's her phone. So I tried to find my phone but it was turned off. I tried to turn it on and the screen showed some text to ask question that look like what type of phone mode or system. I was trying to decide and I woke up.
Brbailey 17/11/2019 at 2:39 pm
For the past several nights I've been dreaming about my car being stolen, vandalized, or having objects stolen out of it like my sons carseat. So I try to dial 911, but I can never correctly dial 911, its always different variations of 9s and 1s
Or I'll dream somehow I've jumped too high into the sky and I feel the momentum as I'm falling back down to the ground
Or a dog that chases and attacks me
It's all odd.

I had a dream I was trying to call my father (he died 25 years ago). I knew in the dream he was coming home from a vacation but no matter how many times I tried to call him, I couldn't. I didn't recognize the phone I was using, it was rubbery. I was screaming and crying and begging to reach him and saying I'm going to get a new phone. The next thing that happened I was going to my front room. My room mate had invited some colorful guests that were men. I was nude. I said hello and they were smiling and I started saying oh well what the heck I'm nude and said hi.

(Added bonus to the two below comments:) While I was rereading these comments of mine on this site, I had taken my computer outside and sat below my outdoor umbrella. It was only 5:30AM, so it was still dark. Suddenly, my laptop mouse pointer starts jumping around the screen. Randomly, it makes the pages larger, smaller, moves all around in crazy ways. I brought the laptop inside and, in the light now, I see that water had been dripping from the canopy above me, right onto the mouse pad. So, while the pointer still crazily jumps around, I dry the pad. Finally, it stabilizes. But now it's not working at all. I can't get out of your web site. Finally, I resort to powering down the computer. As it reboots, I have just enough time to consider I might be dreaming. But I'm convinced I can't possibly be in a dream, no way. Now, I have to suspect I'll spend the rest of my life in some real-unreal dream-state.
Doc 24/03/2019 at 1:09 pm
(Continuation of my comment above)just so believable until I couldn't dial any phones. Next, I get out of bed and leave the room, enter the common rooms of this London hotel suite, where my staff are all bustling about. (Yep, I'm still dreaming and I don't realize it.) I tell everybody to stop in their tracks. "Nobody continues their work until we find my phone, please." Instantly, my phone is recovered. It was charging in some tucked away location of the suite.

Glad now, I dial the number to my Los Angeles office. It doesn't work. I think, "Is the country code ZERO one one? Or just one one? Or is it zero four four?" I start to dial different versions to reach the home office. When I start to get the familiar feeling of angst in this task, I think, "Waaaaiiit just a damn minute..."

And I wake - this time for real.

I had a dream that there was a old lady laying on the floor, I'm using my phone to call for the ambulance but unable to do so as my fingers are to fat to press the numbers, then I try a phone box, same thing happens and then I use a key pad same thing happens

Every dream I can remember for as long as I remember involves a phone I need to use but am unable to. The reasons vary from no service, wrong numbers, to just unable to get my fingers to work to even dial. Sometimes its super crazy dream reasons I desperately need the phone & sometimes its just bc I want to talk to someone but I never am able to - the phone never works for me. Every single dream - Guess that says alot about my communication skills eh? Lol geez

This kind of didn’t touch back on calling 911- it asked if you’re calling a person or 911- then if you’re calling a person.. list of questions.. no, I was trying to call police for an unwanted female, forget how she came into play and why I was annoyed with her.

Mine was about not being able to call a cab. There was a flood and I didn't feel comfortable driving home but I didn't want to be stuck at my old high school (for some reason. I'm in my 30s now) so I was trying to call a cab. I couldnt remember the numbers and I couldn't find the numbers either. I asked people for help but they couldn't remember or help. One could but I couldn't dial the number. So I tried calling my step father but I couldn't find his or my mom's number. Then part of the school collapsed from the flood. Very frustrating dream. My cat woke me so I don't know if I ever got home lol

I had a dream where my stepmom took me but she drove from the passengers seat. and my phone had no service so i couldnt call my dad. then when we got there i could call him and he sounded so upset i took the keys and stole the car. but i also was driving from the passengers seat. And when i tried to call him again literally every noise just stopped and the dream went on in silence i woke up after the noise stopped cause like yikes.
(They are currently going through a divorce btw)

I have dreamt sporadically about not being able to use a Phone when I really need to . Its almost as if I have boxing gloves on or big fingers - too big to ring the correct number. I frequently get to the last digit - thinking all ok and then it goes wrong again.

i felt like I was hostage and I was in a hospital and there were a handful of doctors in this certain wing that were telling everyone to ignore me because I was crazy when I sad to call the police. my phone didn’t work when I called 911 - it wasn’t the police - but they asked for my name and I told them and they laughed and said thanks for giving me your name but this isn’t 911, I had to ask strangers to call for me but they’d look at me like I was crazy and the doctors would soon catch me and I’d have to run and hide in the hospital and find a good nurse or a patient and try to dial 911 for me...
Then I got home to my house but it was bad there too, the same bad doctor would pull up and run to the unlocked doors before I could lock them, this happened serveral times as he would run to a different door and it would always be unlocked... it just kept happening, until one time I locked all the doors except one and as he broke through I had to knock this doctor guy unconscious at the temple.

Phones have NEVER worked for me in dreams, and still don't , although I don't have those dreams as much as before. I was always trying to get help for myself or someone else in distress in these dreams. No matter who it was for, the phone never worked. It finally dawned on me what the dreams were a bout. For me the dreams meant quite literally... No one is coming to rescue you. You have to handle your own problems yourself. Don't even try to look for an easy way out. Once I had that realization the dreams ceased.
AnalyseDreams Editor 13/09/2018 at 9:44 am
It seems as though you are looking at your life objectively. Perhaps you know certain situations are going to present themselves and rather than heed warnings or take advice of others you may keep on going towards that situation regardless. In other words, when you anticipate there is going to be a metaphorical car-crash in your life - you keep moving towards it and can almost see yourself from outside of yourself and seemingly do not have much control over your inner emotions. We often think we have control of our lives, but sometimes we can feel more like pawns or puppets of a bigger more external force that gives us little control over our rational selves.

I have a reoccurring dream that I'm driving a car, thing is... I'm not in the car, I'm behind it. It's almost as if I'm driving a remote control car like kids play with, except in my dream it's a real car. It's getting further and further away from me and harder to see what I should do, there is a curve in the road and even though I can't see, I keep driving the car around that curve. Sometimes, I just keep driving it blindly untill I somehow know I've crashed, other times I will stop and hope nothing is going to crash into me. I'm always trying to catch up with it to see what's going on.

@puffy cloud - hopefully you will bump into him again. This is how relationships start, you meet someone, there is an instant attraction and then as if by magic they may appear somewhere where you least expect it :) If you are dreaming of him disconnecting though, it means you are not very hopeful of seeing him again.
puffy cloud 05/09/2018 at 10:45 pm
I developed a crush on someone who's in a relationship, and from body language it seemed as though the couple are not in sink. Later, he came back into my store a couple times, we had nice/short conversation, but haven't seen him since.....maybe he's busy or later felt uncomfortable. I'm not at that store anymore and haven't seen him since.

DREAM: I get a phone call from him, he says he found my number. We have a nice conversation, then suddenly the phone disconnects.....like he suddenly hung up on me or got disconnected...then my dream ended.

I had a dream where my mom told me to go bathe her fetus. It was a very small baby, the size of an aborted fetus but alive. I went to go bathe it and it looked dead at first but slowly opened it’s eyes. I then proceeded to call my boyfriend to come pick me up from my family’s house and I couldn’t type his phone number in properly no matter how hard I tried. I then attempted to again and could not find the phone.

Prophetic dreams aren't anything new to me, I've had them on and off since I was a child. From big things, like my cousins getting into a very serious car accident, down to at least seemingly insignificant like dreaming 2 different things that I ran across back to back online last night.

I can sleep for 15 minutes and fully dream, or during the night I occasionally have dreams where I move in with random roommates, get a new job, and live day to day life for a month or 2, complete with all the shifts at work and the home time as well. Those are always really crazy because I remember all my new friends names and all sorts of details beyond what most people say they experience in a dream.

The absolute craziest was from about March of 2013 until November 8 2016 I had almost the same dream at least 3 times a week. The end of the world would happen, a different way every time, aliens, war, disease, usually something terrifying we are trying to escape when a man, always a different guy, but always the same. He says, "Follow me, I have everything you need, I am a great man that can give you a safe place with food and water, there are other people already there." Once we're there, it's too late, we're prisoners, and we have to plot an overthrow and escape.
The very last night I had this dream was the night before our most recent presidential election. I fully believe I dreamt of Trump's coming for over 3 years before it happened. I am just thankful those dreams are done. I really hate apocalyptic dreams.

I'd love to do some dream studies!

This is indeed a strange dream. The fact you cannot see from your eyes and/or see/hear other things going on properly can mean that there are many obstacles and barriers in your pathway currently. Yet, also seeing yourself in this way may mean your view of yourself is somewhat skewed or has been altered in some way by a possible event. It sounds as though you are lost currently and cannot find a way through a particular situation, or you are trying to find your way through a particularly dark situation or place in your life. The fact the mirror portrays you with the eyes open but in yourself the eyes are black and seeping means that you are hiding something possibly from yourself and others. You don't say how you feel in the dream, as this would help interpretation.
HoneyTattletail 09/08/2018 at 8:22 am
I notice a strange thing with my dreams that they all have in common. my eyes feel alway shut, but I can see clearly in the darkness. The light are always broken where even if you try to turn them on from the switch, nothing happens. phones start to ring when I get too close to them and if I try to pick it up and use the phone, I get the sound that is earrape level of volume that sounds like the dial-up sound. TVs always show snow on them. my reflection looks more twisted when I look in the mirror. the reflection of me would have the eyes open, but there are no eye, just the sockets with darkness inside them. some black liquid keeps coming out from the eyes. also, if I try to open a door, I end up somewhere that is random, but if I try to get back to where I was from the same door, I can't.

I am sorry to hear about your husband. This is a dream of contact and you still feeling close to your diseased husband, meaning that you still can't quite come to terms with the reality that he has gone (by the fact you keep trying to contact him). If you look at your dream closely, it is a beautiful dream showing that you could be your true 'naked' self with your husband and that despite him not being around you still feel that level of closeness. With regards to your past friend, it may be that you wish for someone to connect to on a male level now your husband is not around. You would have to look more closely at this and the situation that comes from your relationship with this person as it could be that you see/saw him as being part of your life and cannot quite let him go either. The fact he is trying to reach you may mean that you feel there is unfinished business where this person is concerned.

It sounds as though you may have had a recent shock/significant event happen and you have as a result been a bit lost or confused about a particular for a period of time. Dreaming of a wave is symbolic of an incoming force or shock coming at you. If a recent shock hasn't happened, your dream may mean you may yet to have one, or are anticipating one perhaps from a build up of emotion that may come pouring out after an event (i.e a fall out in friendships, or a sudden change in your life that you weren't predicting). In such times we need our families as support, hence the fact you were trying to call your mum. It sounds as though if there is any blip, it will be a temporary one given that you quickly found yourself coming out of the darkness.
Shon 31/07/2018 at 1:10 pm
I had a dream that I was searching for a flatmate (nonexistent) who went missing, I got caught in a tidal wave that slammed me against a brick wall, I “lost consciousness” and woke up in darkness, found my way back home (to a place that isn’t my real home with random housemates) when I asked how long I had been gone for they said 48 hrs. I tried using their phones to call my mum to tell her i was safe but the phones wouldn’t work and I began to cry hysterically for someone to give me their phone so I could call my mum. Then I woke up to my grocery delivery in real life lol.

It sounds as though there is some confusion and you are feeling a sense of frustration somewhere in your life, whether with your family, in work or in personal relationships.

It may be a dream which means nothing much. Or it may be a dream that represents a mis-communication of sorts and/or that you feel your boyfriend is keeping something from you and not saying.

I had a dream where I was in my room, but it wasn't really my room. It sounds as though you may be worried about someone else in your life currently who is more vulnerable than other people you may know. It could be a child, or a relative or friend. Or it could be a situation that someone else is going through and the dream about your response when asked for help. Much depends upon how you felt when you are asked to take the person to hospital. This will reflect your deeper thoughts about this person or the situation the dream connects to.

I had a dream where I was standing on the side of the road. Suddenly I see this tiny little car come along, it’s so small it could be for a kid but there is a person inside the car. Next thing I know this huge car like a truck comes along and crashes into the tiny car and smashes it flat like a pancake. This car backs up and I’m watching the car become unsmashed again but I know the person inside is seriously hurt, but I don’t want to look. The driver of the other car is yelling at me to take him to the hospital and I’m looking at my phone and panicking about whether I should take him to the hospital or dial 911. I kind of freeze while thinking about it not knowing what to do. I woke up thinking the thing to do was to call 911.

Dreams such as this usually signify that something else is going on in your life that you can connect it to, particularly in respect to the rain and your roof falling in. The question is what is going on in your life that you feel is worrying or you are concerned about? It may be a relationship break up, or financial troubles etc. Whatever it is, it is preying on your mind subconsciously or it feels like a portent of uncomfortable things to come. However, the fact someone came to fix the roof and your grandmother came to check on you, means that all in the end will be OK. Visits from deceased relatives is always a lovely sign. Whether you believe in the afterlife or not, it is a great comfort. In dreams such as this we never can help but feel our loved ones are still around looking out for us in some way.

I dreamt that it was raining heavy outside and my bedroom ceiling was starting to fall in on its self so I was trying to ring the repairs but my phone just wouldn't do what I was trying to make it do, the wrong apps were coming up and it was making me panic and get angry, then it jumped to someone going up ladders to a hole in the roof to fix and then my deceased grandmother appeared and was having a general chat with me as if she were still here until she had to go and it was as if we both knew it was back to the afterlife and we both hugged really hard and started yo cry then I woke up (crying obviously)

I hope the response to Mazza also answers your question.

Your dream is merely one of a basic insecurity that you feel you need to have to justify your actions and reassure your boyfriend. There is nothing to worry about here - it's just your sense of responsibility to another person kicking in. It demonstrates that your love for him is strong and that you do not wish to do anything that may jeopardise your relationship in any way. The key here is what you perceive your boyfriend's reaction to be if he doesn't hear from you. If you think he will be worried, then you feel your love is strong. If you think he is not bothered and will go and do his own thing if he doesn't hear from you, then it may be that you feel deep down that your personal obligations to him are stronger than his personal obligations to you.

I keep dreaming different settings But they all sum up to me being at a party or me being somewhere with other people, desperate to text/call my boyfriend to tell him Im okay and will be Home soon - and that i haven’t Done Anything He wouldnt approve of ( i often Suddenly realize that it’s the morning after, but always with friends that we trust, and always a random coincidental reason as to why it got so late). Every time my iPhone bugs up - either I can’t find his number on my phone, or there is a virus on my phone, or I can’t seem to find his name on Facebook to send him an IM, or read what worries he might have sent me - no matter what I do. And it turns into a nightmarish feeling because I am always very intent on showing him the love he deserves IRL , and I have eyes for no one else, truly. So I’m there in this frustrating dream knowing that I haven’t come home the last night, but done nothing wrong besides from that, but knowing that it’s not okay to stay out and don’t leave a message- and he must be super worried and have all these terrible ideas of what I must have been up to. And I sort of fight my way home but there’s ton of random stuff happening to prevent me to keep focus. We have a great relationship and besides from “normal” stuff, I don’t worry particularly much about deeper things with us, and we are both certain of each other and all is good. But these dreams have been following me now for the last year of our now 2 year relationship and I can’t understand it.

I have this reoccuring dream where I'm sleep, someone breaks into my house, walks around the house without taking any thing. I pick up the phone and try to call my friend for help; but, either my phone won't work, or I mis-dial his phone number. The dream has been reoccuring for a month straight and I can't make sense of it. I do know that the dream has seemed to distant me from my friend; I can feel the division happening even when we are together "laughing" and "carrying on".

It may mean quite obviously that you subconsciously wish to keep in touch with this person. On the other hand, it may not mean that at all. Much depends upon whether you feel that person resonates in your life and whether you wish to keep in contact with them. Unless the feeling stays with you and you feel that it may means something deeper, then it may just be a dream of mere coincidence this person came up in conversation in your dream.

I had a dream i was out with my friends in a restaurant an I lost my phone an I was saying I won't be able to keep in touch with a certain person. I went looking for it an found that person and told them I lost it.

What does this mean?

Much depends how you feel in the dream and why you think the family may be in the house. If your mother's house was previously a family house, then you may be harking back to former times. However, the puzzling aspect of your dream is the fact you are telling your family to leave; do you psychologically wish to be separated from them now your mother has died? Do you feel they have intruded too much on the memories of your mum or are intruding too much in a particular way? The answer will come to you if you question the reasons why it bothers you so much that your family refuse to leave.

The dream is likely to have something to do with your work environment, particularly if your stress levels are a result of work. It may be a simple feeling that you are unable to get your job done to the best of your abilities, that you are underperforming in some way, and/or you are feeling frustrated as you are not able to achieve a particular objective. Ask yourself what you think the explanation may be in connection to your dream, your subconscious is very good at making the connection and answering questions for you.

I have a similar recurring dream, usually happening when I’m stressed. But in the dream something happens where I have to call emergency services but I don’t remember the number or the number rings out. The most recent one was that my dad had called to say he was going to commit suicide but I just couldn’t work out how to call emergency services (which is incredibly strange thing for me considering I’m a firefighter and see the number multiple times a day)

I have this dream where my mom (who is deceased) is out of town and she told me to go over and check her mail and nobody is supposed to be in her house. I go over and find my nephew, his girlfriend and kids with other people in her house. I tell them to leave and they do. I leave and come back and they are there again. I tell them to leave and this time they refuse to leave. I try to call my mom but I can't dail the number. I try several times with no results. I finally wake up.

You might be the observer of someone else's car-crash/difficult life currently and are powerless to help. Someone close to you may be going through a tough time and you realise there is little you can do to make things better. Or, this may be something that hasn't yet happened yet. Or, something that hasn't happened yet but you are subconsciously aware that it might. You would have to analyse your own dream subtext and see if it relates to someone you know.

I have had two dreams recently. The first I was on a road and there was a car crash in front of me. The car was upside down and someone was stuck inside. I tried to call triple zero on my phone but I couldn’t find the keypad in the phone app. I woke up before I could help. The second dream I was in a car and the road was blocked by a semi-trailer truck that had flipped on its side. Again I tried to call for help but the same thing happened as in the first dream. What does this mean?

It seems as though you may have some family issues going on currently of which you are not in control of. You obviously feel protective over your siblings, but feel poweless to help them in some way. However, only you can try to fully analyse your dream and what it may mean given the feelings attached to your dream and where they may resonate from.

I’ve had this dream twice in a row where one of my sibiling is hurt and so I try to call someone for help. In the first one my sisters feet got cut off so I tried to call my older sister and then 911 but I couldn’t. I couldn’t find the number or the apps to call and at one point my fingers broke so I couldn’t talk. In another dream my hands were swelling up really big and I knew I needed to get help. Then it turned out to be someone else who had the swelling hands so I tried to call 911. When I went to the phone I couldn’t find the calling app on my iPhone I kept trying for what seemed like hours and becoming frustrated and anxious that their hands would explode while I frantically tried to call for help. In both those dreams I woke up before I could call.
I’ve never really had a recurring dream so this one struck me. I can’t seem to find out what these dreams mean.

@alley - it sounds as though you have minor frustration in your life that you can never get to the bottom of.
alley 09/01/2018 at 9:36 pm
I have nightmares a lot and often in them, I try to dail the police, but it won't dial or it won't ring. I can never even get through to them. I can count at least 10 dreams where this has happened and it's still happening and I'm wondering why I can't even get the phone to ring. A friend of mine told me that maybe it means that I need to handle my own problems, instead of looking to others for help.

I keep having dreams that I am trying to call my boyfriend and see where he is but either can't find his number or can't dial , etc. :( and I get so frantic! Cry sometimes.. but no tears come out.

I have reoccurring dreams of trying to call the police but never can dial. But this one in particular is bothering me. I was picking my two boys (4&5) up from the bus stop. I had our dog, and my other son (1) with me. We get to the bus stop i get them off the bus. At this point my one year old has vanished from the dream. So I was talking to a friend when our dog runa away. Start chasing her but then stop and its like I never had her with me either. So now its just the three of us. We are walking home but end up having to cut through someones house. (Very weird, walking there was no problem) I don't know the guy, older gentleman. So i get them inside, had to go through a small window like opening. My 4 year old is sitting on a bed. I get my 5 year old and start walking through the hallway to leave, the guy has two dogs on leases, tells us to use the front door. I'm carring my 5 year old. The 1st dog doesn't even acknowledge us. The second, right by the door starts growling. I feel very uncomfortable and scared. He says I can ise the back door if it makes me feel better. So i get him outside, sit him on the step and tell him to wait. I go to get his brother, he's now sleeping. I grab him and get him outside. I close the door and can hear the guy talking. I forget what he was saying but I was scarred and rushing to get out of there. I have to but shoes on my 4 year old, because at some point he took them off. So I'm panicking and just pick up the 4 year old and the 5 year old is holding my hand. We start leaving, fast! We make it across the street and I decide to put his shoes on there. So we are in the side walk and the older guy comes out with his two dogs. I'm uneasy but act like everything ia fine. He's walking his dogs right over to us. Then he says to his mean dog, looking at my sons, "Must be nice to hunt your food." At this point I pick them both up. I'm apologizing saying I don't know what I did wrong. He's not saying anything. So we leave. We are walking home as fast as we can. But for some reason I live far away. He keeps following us. I'm on the phone with the cops explaining Whats going on. Waiting for help. I get disconnected, call back, they tell me that they told me before no one can come, no ones in that area. I'm crying and pleading with them. I run into my sister. So she's now with us. We are still walking home. I'm still on the phone with the cops. Still no help. Next thing I know we are in the house. The guy is outside telling me to send my sons out. I'm still talking to these damn police men when they finally agree to come but will be an hour. And then I woke up. In the dream everything we did and the place seemed normal, in real life I have no idea where that place was and it seems so odd to have to cut through someones house. Also I don't have to walk to pick my boys up from school.

Woke up in my parents house. Nobody was there but me. Looked outside to see/hear helicopter looking around for someone. Looked across the street to find men with guns in houses hiding. Went to find back door slightly cracked open. Shut the door, looked through window to see car hiding out in backyard. After I closed the door, men in car with machine guns started firing. Tried calling parents not to come home, but numbers would not dial how I input them. Also tried calling 911, but 911 was not an option on the phone. Jumped on back of guy riding bicycle to flee the neighborhood into apocalyptic world.

@Sadness - are you experiencing any insecurities or distrust surrounding friends? It sounds like someone might be trying to take your friends away or you are distrusting of people currently. As yourself what's bothering you at the moment, you might find your dream is connected to that in some way and then you'll find the answer.

I had a dream that I was in a crowded area. No one knew me but then I saw this group of people pointing at me and started to run after me, so I started to run away. I tied to call my mum and dad several times and all it did was ring...ring and ring and then went to voice message every single time, so I just started running faster I didn't know where I was or what I was doing there looked like it was a party on like mountains, it looked all over the place, something wasn't right so I went into one of like the bar areas and they found me, they put me on a table strapped me down and started to pull my truth out but then, one of my friends came in and saw them pulling my teeth out (luckly they didn't pull all of them out) and after that I just ran away with her and they kept chasing use. The ending was awkward it was just me in a build a bear store and my friend making a bear while I tried calling my parents and then one of the 'workers' turned around and it was one of the guys that was pulling my teeth out and he said 'hello...' and it ended. Something wasn't right about that dream i don't know why.

@Malez - it might mean you are frustrated about something and you feel you are being thwarted from getting what you want in some way. As it says, sometimes you should listen to your inner voice when it comes to dreams being explained. You and only you have the answer :)
